Profile FAQ
Your account page is split into various tabs to help you manage your content on GeoMachine. In each tab, you will find:
- Profile: You can update your profile information here. This is kept private, but it is helpful for the team at GeoMachine to know more about our users and what they are looking for from the platform.
- Machines: GeoMachine is a framework of components and services that be configured into specific combinations that focus on individual problems or simulations. We call these 'machines' and each machine has a unique focus. The majority of machines are private and are only available through invitation or affiliation with a project. Any machines that you have access to will appear in this tab.
- Downloads: If you use the subsetting service on GeoMachine, this data will appear here once it is ready for download. You can also create timelapse videos of layers using the GeoPuppet service. All downloads will expire after 24 hours, but you may download them to keep.
- Dashboards: Users can create custom layouts of map layers and plots for their own use or to share with others / embed on another website.
- API: Any registered user can generate a key to use the GeoMachine API. Instructions for using the API can be found here.

Machines FAQ
Machines are a specific combination of GeoMachine’s components and services that focus on individual problems or simulations. Each machine has a unique focus and has bespoke functionality.
We are actively developing a range of ways to interact with these machines such as AR, VR and other novel interfaces. Machines may connect to services such as AI or expose machine specific APIs.
The majority of machines are private and are only available through invitation or affiliation with a project. Any machines that you have access to will appear in this tab.
At the moment, no... but this might change in the future. At the moment, if you’ve got an idea or concept for a machine, please let us know and we can see if we can help to make it happen.

Downloads FAQ
Most data sets on GeoMachine have a subsetting service where you can request a subset of data for specific times, elevations and parameters from a larger dataset.
You also have access to the GeoPuppet service, whereby you can create timelapse videos of layers.
Both of these services will generate files in the background and you will be notified by email when the downloads are ready. You can either click the link in the email to download the data directly, or you can visit your account area and download the data from there.
All downloads will expire after 24 hours, but you may download them to keep.
Compiling subsets of larger datasets is a resource and time intensive task. Some data files can be extremely large and downloading and processing these can take time. Similarly, videos are generated from map layers from a variety of external sources and the speed at which they display may vary considerably.
The good news is that you don’t have to wait around for them to download. As soon as they are ready, you will receive a notification via email.

Dashboards FAQ
Dashboards are a way for you to create custom layouts of map layers and plots. You can use these dashboards to collate datasets that are important to you.
You can also use dashboards to share with others or embed them on another website. To do this, the dashboard must be set to ‘public’.
Unless you specifically share your dashboard via a link or embed it, no-one else can see your dashboards.
This may well change in the future for dashboards that are marked ‘public’, but any dashboards that are private will remain so.
Yes. Dashboards are quite simple at the moment, but we have big plans to make them much more powerful and robust in the future.

API FAQ
The GeoMachine API can be used to provide data points to external applications and services from any of the data sets within the catalogue.
To begin using the API, register for an API key and make a note of it. At any point, you can refresh and retrieve a new key, replacing the old one.
To get started, please review the API documentation and code samples provided. You can also copy API urls from the main map interface to get started. Any layer that is compatible with the API will display an API link once you have registered for a key.
Endpoints for the API include:
- Parameters: The parameter request can fetch the value of a parameter for a data set at a longitude and latitude point, on or over a period of time and at a specified or default elevation.
- Elevation: The elevation request can fetch the elevation based on topography and bathymetry sources at a longitude and latitude point.
